Reforming the Costs of a College Education

New Saint Andrews is a rigorous four-year classical liberal arts college seeking a biblical reformation of Christian culture (including academic culture). That means being faithful both in what we teach and in what we charge for tuition and fees. Our demanding program of studies gives students a rich Trinitarian worldview without chaining them to a devilish pile of debt when they graduate. A truly Christian education won't make students slaves to debt (Proverbs 22:7). Tuition at New Saint Andrews is about one-third of what most private colleges now charge and we make it possible for our students to pay the same fixed rate for all four years. So when our students graduate, they are not only intellectually and spiritually prepared, but truly free to serve just one Master.

Avoiding Government Entanglements and the Compromises They Entail

New Saint Andrews is a truly free and independent classical Christian college. The College accepts no direct state or federal financial assistance, and participates in no state or federal educational or social programs. Unlike most Christian and non-Christian colleges today, New Saint Andrews refuses to jeopardize its academic and religious freedom and integrity through government entanglements for the sake of financial gain. Moreover, the College Board of Trustees has made this principled decision to ensure that the College’s faculty and students will be fully free to declare the Lordship of Christ over every inch of all that exists without the constraints or compromises necessary to receive federal or state government approvals. This includes the College’s refusal to seek tax-exempt status (as a 501[c]3 organization) from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (see the Important Tax Information note below). This means that though the College is a legally recognized non-profit educational institution, contributors who give to the College do not receive a tax break from the IRS. Our donors give generously because they are committed to the vision and work of New Saint Andrews.

Because of this commitment to provide Christian higher education free of any government entanglements or compromises, gifts to the College are not just helpful, but vital to its operation, maintenance, and growth. Gifts to the College are our principal source of revenue to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual costs of educating the more than 120 students enrolled each year. And gifts are our only means of keeping tuition costs affordable for our dedicated students and their faithful families.

Advisory Council Membership and Protocols

The Council is a voluntary group of friends, supporters, and staff members of the College who are in agreement with the College’s Statement of Faith and who are committed to the advancement of the College and its vision for classical Christian higher education. Members of the Advisory Council serve annual, renewable terms at the request of the Dean. Advisory Council members may nominate other Council candidates to the Dean at any time.

The Council elects its own chairman and secretary annually. The chairman or the Dean may call a formal meeting of the Council at any time. However, the chairman and Dean are encouraged to conduct most meetings and discussions by email. All Council recommendations and reports are forwarded to the College Dean for his review. Any formal Council actions or commitments made on behalf of or in the name of the College require the prior approval of the Dean and/or the College’s Board of Trustees (the Executive Council has ads hoc authority to make decisions on behalf of the Council, subject to review and approval by the full Board of Trustees at its next regular meeting).
