Unable to play publicly, Dr. Cole Tutino has decided to live stream a cello recital. He'll be performing the Suite No. 3 in C Major for Solo Cello by J.S. Bach.
Dr. Tutino shared his motivations for holding this recital:
Shortly after New Saint Andrews began the term using online instruction, I had the idea of doing a live recital via the web. As it became more and more clear that we wouldn't be meeting physically for a while, I became even more convinced that this would be a beneficial thing to do. Music is such an important part of the college's culture, and I'm grateful that God has given us unprecedented technological means to continue connecting with one another. Being in isolation is tough emotionally, and so I'm primarily doing this as an encouragement to our students, faculty, and staff. I'm doing it live instead of pre-recorded to capture as much of the social element as I can; the New Saint Andrews community can stream it knowing that I'm performing for them specifically at that moment. The solo cello suites of Bach are perfect for such an occasion because they are meant to be played by just a single musician, and they are such masterpieces.
