Summer Music Camp 2024 Recap

This year’s Summer Music Camp was not only our largest to date, with 462 students in attendance (grades K through graduated high school seniors), but it was also the 20th camp since it was begun by Dr. Erb back in 2003. This milestone was marked with more than just record numbers - it just keeps getting better as well as bigger. Representing 12 states and 54 churches from all over the country, the campers spent an exciting week engaged in activities, games, Bible study, and most of all learning to sing to God’s glory. Grades K-3 enjoyed a half day camp, while the older campers (grades 4-13) got the full-day experience.

This year’s theme was The Lord’s Prayer, and activities such as Languages (where the campers learned the Lord’s Prayer in Greek!), Daily Bread (where they worked together to bake bread that they then were able to eat), and Art (where they learned how to draw and shade the iconic Dürer Praying Hands) helped make the theme come alive. The campers also learned to folk dance with skill and grace in daily dance classes that culminated in the biggest and best ball to date. But the beating heart of Music Camp is, of course, the music making. All week, led by experienced Christian music teachers, the campers learned choral music based on the Lord’s Prayer that they then presented in the capstone closing concert on Saturday (which can be viewed here), crowned with a stunning piece by J.S. Bach. Once again, Summer Music Camp was more than just a fun day camp - the students worked to create a beautiful, powerful, and glorious work of art that brought glory to our Lord.
