Fellow of History
Dr. Dorney is Fellow of History at New Saint Andrews College. He teaches the College’s sophomore-year history colloquium, as well as electives in intellectual history and historiography from Xenophon to Machiavelli to the American founding. Dr. Dorney joined the faculty in 2022 after postdoctoral appointments at Arizona State University and the University of Notre Dame. He earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame in 2019, where he wrote on the device of the deus ex machina from Homeric epic to Socratic political philosophy; he received his BA in Political Science from Boston College in 2013. Dr. Dorney and his wife, Dr. Amanda Dorney, live in Moscow with their son and two daughters.
